“A healer’s power stems not from any special ability, but from maintaining the courage and awareness to embody and express the universal healing power that every human being naturally possesses.”– Eric Micha’el Leventhal
Reiki is a Japanese term coined in the late 19th century by a monk named Mikao Usui. However, Reiki is merely a referential term attempting to make sense of a much larger concept. Other labels that have been used to try and make sense of this same essence include: Qi, Chi, Life Force, Source Energy, Faith, Divinity, Truth and even Love.
Reiki is not something only a few posses. Every particle and wave of existence quivers with this prolific animation. Utilizing your own Reiki energy, you can heal and recalibrate yourself at any time – you don’t even have to be intentional to do it. Placebo effect, superhuman strength and clarity in heroic moments – even what some think of as ‘good luck,’ can all be considered the work of subconscious applications and amplifications of this energy.
As sound affects water, the morphological cosmos can be influenced by frequencies and vibrations. Certain frequencies cause order and others cause chaos. Love, Hope, Truth, or what we may call Reiki, is a frequency of infinite progressive power. Once you know how to tune in, the possibilities for restoration and advancement become endless.
Similar to Divination, the practice of Reiki consists of channeling Divine or metaphysical energy. However, instead of the purpose of this channel being illumination or reflection, the practice of Reiki channels perfect Divine Source Energy for healing. The practitioner opens themselves as a channel or conduit for highly-concentrated Love/Truth/Reiki to flow through them to the recipient of the session.
This is not an exchange of energy, or even a transfer of energy from the practitioner. A Reiki energy healer is in fact no healer at all. They simply hold space, acting as a conduit for the concentration and flow of Reiki, allowing this metaphysical power to come through them. As mayryanna Shakti once said of her experience as a practitioner, “The only thing I’m really good at is getting out of the way.”
It is not even necessary for the client to tell a practitioner what the Reiki is needed for. Often enough, they only have a symptom level understanding of the issues they face anyway. Bypassing human error on both ends, the Reiki channeled from the practitioner is met by the Reiki already existing within the client and the two metaphysical frequencies work together to fill in the gaps needed for system and function optimization. This is what makes Reiki really special: it is inherently unlimited wisdom and allows for profound custom applications. Because of this, the way one client experiences receiving Reiki will rarely be the way another client experiences it.
“Give yourself permission to let it hurt but also allow yourself the permission to let it heal.”– Nikki Rowe
As we said, Reiki is available to everyone. So, what distinguishes a Reiki practitioner from the rest of us? A practitioner has committed themselves to service of others by further aligning with the Reiki energy via training and attunements. A good Reiki practitioner has a familiarity with the energy. Like any practice or discipline, confidence and achievement come with experience.
Still, this in no way limits the inherent power of Reiki. mayryanna Shakti has been using Reiki to heal both people and animals for decades longer than she has been attuned to practice Reiki. All she understood then was that there is a love that contains the power of miracles. She didn’t know what to call her unmastered ability to channel this love until she began studying Reiki as a formal discipline in 2018.
